Title: Student-Parent Mentor/Advocate File 537
Reports to: Assigned administrator/supervisor
Job Objective: Provides advocacy support for students and their families. Promotes positive working relationships between families and
district personnel.
Minimum · Exhibits an extensive understanding of district special education programs.
Qualifications:
· Available to work a non-traditional schedule and irregular hours when needed.
· Embraces high-performance standards (e.g., engagement, proficiency, resilience, etc.)
· Maintains a record free of criminal violations that prohibit public school employment.
Preferred Attributes: Effective interpersonal skills. Conscientious and self-directed.
Physical Demand Level1: Sedentary strength (seldom lifting/carrying more than 11 lbs.). Duties require communicating
verbally, far/near visual acuity, fine/gross manipulation, reaching at or below shoulder height, standing/walking, and using a
traditional keyboard.

Essential 1. Provides advocacy services to improve communications between home and school.
Functions: - Attends relevant meetings as necessary.
· Delivers presentations as necessary to help parents/guardians identify and access community resources.
· Responds to requests for assistance with family concerns related to student learning.
- Uses attendance and disciplinary data to identify students at risk of dropping out of school.
· Consults with families and staff to identify student intervention strategies most likely to be effective.
· Helps parents/guardians understand services and prerequisite requirements for student participation.
· Establishes support groups and facilitates parent/guardian networking activities.
· Follows district procedures to protect the privacy of family/student information.
· Prepares records as directed. Complies with district records retention and disposal policies.
- Monitors students struggling with academic, behavioral, and/or social-emotional concerns.
- Facilitate student/family access to community resources.
- Advocates for students. Promotes access to inclusive educational opportunities for all students.
- Implements effective pupil management procedures. Uses positive behavioral support techniques to address disruptive
student behavior.
- Helps students make good decisions and improve personal skills. Encourages creativity, critical thinking, cultural
awareness, democratic values, empathy, ethical behavior, and self-reliance.
- Maintains effective document and records management systems.

discrimination, inappropriate behavior, or suspected child abuse/neglect.
6. Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
· Helps implement district strategies to advance organizational goals.

Working at heights, in confined spaces, or under diminished/variable lighting.
